1 bedroom penthouse apartment in Las Ramblas (code: 1_6a)Apartment Description: This apartment situated in Las Ramblas (Ciutat Vella), is complete with a double room, a bathroom, kitchen (microwave, an oven, an electric coffee machine, a toaster, a full refrigerator, washing machine, Heating System, Air Conditioner and a TV), a living room with 2 sofas and a 100 m2 Terrace with 2 armchairs, a table and views of the Barcelona harbour. The area surrounding the apartment: El Raval is a historic, cosmopolitan and traditionally poor neighbourhood to the south of the Ramblas. Due to its central location and a vast investment by the city over the past decade, it is rapidly becoming a sought after place to live and socialise, with an ever-increasing number of trendy bars, cafes and restaurants, especially around the MACBA modern art museum (see our museums guide). However it still retains a number of social problems and a degree of poverty in select parts, and may not be ideal for those of a more sensitive nature. If you are considering staying in the area, and feel unsure about how you may find it, we recommend that you ask us - we will always do our best to help. Orientation: The Raval is flanked on the northern side by the famous Las Ramblas, by the Old Port (Port Vell) to the east, and by Montjuic Mountain to the south, which is home to the Olympic stadium and the exotic botanical gardens. The west side of El Raval opens up to the area known as Eixample, once considered the playground of the rich and famous, and home to countless stunning modernist buildings. The Maritime Museum is at the Port end of El Raval, and there are various theatres along the main road Parallel which heads up the South side of the area from there. The traditional market of Sant Antoni lies a little further up this side. It is a great place for getting local food produce and on Sundays converts into a paradise for book collectors. On Nou de la Rambla, which crosses Parallel, is the house known as Palau Guell, designed by legendary local architect Antoni Gaudi for his patron. As part of the Raval´s transformation, many roads have been pedestrianised, fashion boutiques are emerging and there will soon be a five-star hotel overlooking the Rambla. In a few years, the area has changed beyond recognition and has even become a rival to El Born for nightlife. Getting there: Nearest metro stations surrounding El Raval area are Catalunya (L3), Universitat (L1), Liceu (L3), Drassanes (L3) and Paral-lel. Nearest Landmarks: The Ramblas; Maritime Museum; MACBA contemporary art museum; Montjuic mountain
